lyrics

Twenty Two knock down years, I’m still here and I’m thinking how he raised me. Made me an eerie soul this is what he gave me. A baby having to deal with stress catching chin shots from my wicked Pops wigged out on sess. He would test me, “Gonna make a man out of you yet.” I can hear him screaming demanding respect with a left. How can I respect you? Lay another hand on my Moms, me and you is dropping bombs.

And so it goes another shot to the skull. Tell me what can I do at Thirteen years old? The man was insane, ain’t gonna lie. For my punishment he'd tie me up and fuck with me until I cried. And then I’d try to hold the tears back, because it gave him satisfaction to hear me asking and begging, pleading, while I’m down on my knees. Then he’d tell me that it’s gonna be awhile before I eat again.

I was a time bomb dealing with this maniac. Scarred mind, scarred songs, bringing back my faith in God. And now I bury myself in my music, and now I use it to pull this motherfucker’s card.

CHORUS:
Mr. Shado Boxa, Mr. Shado Boxa
(Well) I’m grown so we can, we can go, but your up against the shallow shadow soul of your own,
All alone. homegrown so we can, we can go but your up against your own, hey shadow!

And now I’m thinking again was his childhood the same way? Pray that his family stayed away, cuz Papa’s in a rage. Well it’s a circle of fools and society could loose us, producing another generation of abusers. Did he say he ain’t going out like that? Cuz I tell myself “I ain’t going out like that”. If I lay a hand on my child Lord come and get me cuz by then I’ve gone buck wild (take me out cuz I’m reckless).

I’m not a violent man but understand that I was close to murder, heard the screams and you could never forget. And you can bet that I’ve come to make a man out of you yet.

CHORUS

And now it’s year Forty Two and I’m living life, things done changed. This California livin’ kid, everything is re-arranged. I turned my pain and my strength and my stress to success, and now I test best with that stress ‘cuz I’m blessed. I struggle with this journey with my music, but I’m gonna get mine time’s gonna prove it. Trust, there ain’t no end to this pen but it still don’t change how shit was back then.

So you can come and feel me, calling all the Boxa’s. Come along and hear me. Fear me. Well if your dealing with a Boxa, shock him, show the motherfucker you could lock him up and rock him.

CHORUS

(Repeat)

Mr. Shado Boxa! Twenty Two knock down years, I’m still here and I’m thinking how he raised me.

about

PETE [stringfellow] Nashville, Tennessee

Tradition-steeped prodigy, rural technologist, Hollywood farm boy. The paradoxes are many for PETE [stringfellow], as his new single "Pole Dance" attests. That a country artist would even consider a song with that title is a conversation starter all on its own, and the song's clever twist is already leaving both sides of the debate smiling.
